( the first part is very good, the 2nd part is disappointing and short, the 3rd part appears to be good again ) If you don t need the first person shooting - the Star Wolves Series is a nice one to look at. ![]() it has more character developement than games like Freespace II ( more RP focus ) its a half free roam, half storydriven 1st person sim. One of the absolute highlights is Independence War II - which still looks amazingly good. ![]() If you are just looking for a nice space sim game with a good balance and direct controls - you may like to look into the past. The only downside ( if you call it that ) is that its star wars. as far as i can tell - it is a much more serious and less "lulzy" approach - has a very good combat system that is more rewarding in terms of balance and is lightyears ahead in terms of coding. Freeworlds might be what you are looking for.
